negative + negative = positive
After some initial research into the terms, their origins and their meaning as opposites or complements, we move on to the context of art/sculpture, where negative means, among other things, the shaping of an object, the creation of a negative mold to reproduce the shaped object by casting...
Let us take the earth, nature or a landscape as the "object" to be molded. This artistic project takes us outdoors in search of exciting places to find or create selected constellations of forms and to cast them. The aim is to create impressions of reality and thus generate a recognizable negative in comparison to freely invented concave forms. This is done with classical forming methods using plaster or clay. By filling, pouring or pressing the material onto, over or into the counter form, the materialized opposite is created. The captured forms are carefully packaged, taken away, and worked on at home or in the workshop.
Clay objects with a negative form have been created and are to be reworked and fired into ceramics in the kiln. Through the selection and composition of the various fired negative parts, pieces and segments, a large form with a new meaning is created, which upon completion is brought back to the outdoor space and inserted into its place at a selected location.
