Opera by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
The Count Belfiore wounded his fiancée, the Marchesa Violante, in a fit of jealousy, believing he had killed her, and escaped. Some time later, he becomes engaged to Arminda, the Podestà's niece. Meanwhile, Violante and her servant Nardo enter the Podestà's service as gardeners. The Podestà falls in love with the pretty gardener. Belfiore recognises his fiancée, whom he thought was dead, but she denies her identity. Podestà learns from a letter that Belfiore is the murderer of the missing Violante. When he tries to arrest Belfiore, Violante reveals herself and offers her lover her hand in reconciliation.

He falls in love with the young Marguerite, but soon abandons her, driven by his insatiable lust for life. Marguerite, who is pregnant with his child, is left in despair and ostracised by society. When she kills her baby, she is sentenced to death by the secular courts, but is allowed to hope for redemption in heaven.

The two men pretend to be leaving for war, allowing them to disappear from the scene. They then reappear as strangers and make advances towards the other sister. Don Alfonso and Despina, in various disguises, support the temporary deception. The sisters are constantly adored. They become weak... The planned lightning wedding ends in disaster. Don Alfonso wins the bet.

However, his attraction to Adina increases for another reason: an unexpected inheritance. With or without the elixir, wine or inheritance, it turns out that Adina loves Nemorino.
*Current scene: Adina and Nemorino duet: a dramatic negotiation of love affairs.

Together, they decide to flee. Meanwhile, Mustafà is initiated into the fictional Pappataci order, whose motto is 'See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil'. Isabella and Lindoro escape undisturbed. Mustafà returns to his faithful wife, Elvira.
