The topic of my diploma thesis is the conversion of a historic building of the former Reithoffer works in Steyr, Upper Austria. The building I am working on is a currently unused tire warehouse from the time when the Reithoffer company produced car tires at the Steyr site.

The decision to give an existing building a new use in my diploma thesis arose from the consideration that, in my opinion, the topic of reusing a historically valuable industrial building is an essential topic of our time.  By reorienting the former existing use, something important is achieved: new quality is created and at the same time existing identities are preserved.

Various factors play a role in the search for a new purpose for a building. Factors such as the nature of the existing building, the building's surroundings and the historical context are all factors that should be taken into account when searching for a new use.
