According to publications from Statistics Austria and the Austrian Chamber of Economics, there is an upward trend in self-employment. The creative industries, which consist primarily of project-based workers and one-person businesses, are a particularly driving sector. These new forms of work place new demands on working spaces. Creators work in fluctuating teams, are constantly exchanging ideas, and are in continuous research for new projects, making networking essential. Co-working spaces and curated workshops offer ideal conditions for these types of work, as they provide open-plan offices combined with separate meeting spaces. Based on these premises, I will examine the demands of curated workspaces and the development of suitable products in my diploma thesis. The first part of my thesis will explore the initial situation of curated workspaces and the specific requirements that these spaces need to meet. Using the example of co-working spaces by the association ImPlan-Tat and their project PopUpStudios, I will outline such an enterprise. In the second part, I will focus on product development, especially for flexible work conditions within co-working spaces. I will present three proposals for marketable products, each targeting different user groups or work organizations. In the planning stage, I will define the relevant target group, specific demands, and customer benefits. Based on these premises, I will analyze the sub-functions and develop solution principles. In the design phase, I will present the solutions based on detailed modeling studies. Finally, I will assess the materiality, aesthetics, tactility, and usability of the resulting prototype. Additionally, I will present ideas for the market introduction of these products, which represent the result of my research.
