TAZO - A TEMPORARY ARCHITECTURE FOR THE ACTIVATION OF THE TOWN CENTER

In many rural communities in Austria, the landscape is characterised by urban sprawl and traffi c routes that cut through the countryside to bring the inhabitants of remote villages to the nearest urban centre. Motorised private transport has recorded a marked increase. The formerly busy town centres have lost much of their importance and are now almost deserted. The interaction of the inhabitants with each other and the neighbourly feeling of the „famous village life“ are constantly decreasing. Because of the fragmentation of the districts, great attention must be paid to the increase of cultural offers and to the creation of new meeting spaces.

As exemplifided by the Upper Austrian community of Brunnenthal, temporary meeting places are created that can be easily reached and that create additional socialvalue for all generations. With the active participation of the inhabitants in the creation process, spaces of togetherness and exchange are created which revive the town centre. The architectural flexibility of the form gives visitors the opportunity touse the objects individually. Furthermore, since the space is only created for a limited time span, a sustainable disappearance and reappearance of the structure is enabled.
